Super Service Station, March 1981

This is exactly the same cartoon and drawing that I posted for The National Enquirer for April 28, 1981. What happened was that it appeared here first and then a month later The Enquirer, on their own, picked it up from Super Service Station Magazine and reprinted it. Of course, The Enquirer paid me their generous full price for it, as if it was an original.

In case you can't recognize it, that's a basketball the daughter is throwing down. This cartoon clip is from a 1967 newspaper and their color printing was badly out of register. I corrected it a little in Photoshop, but then gave it up as a lost cause.

Product bar codes were fairly new at this time. I think I may have had a caption, which was simply "Uh, oh." The cartoon appeared without any caption. The point of the gag was to reflect everybody's concerns about where bar codes would go in the future.
