Creative Computing, June 1983

Another example of our forgetful editors! This cartoon was printed in the May 1983 issue of Creative Computing and then was promptly printed again in the June 1983 issue.

A while ago, when I posted the May version, I wrote something about how the editor asked me to change my original drawing so that it would be a woman asking the question of a man, instead of the other way around. I guess the editor really liked the change!

Winner of Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 9

Here's the winning caption:

"You see, the advertisement was not a mistake. This sedan does seat seven!"

My original caption:

"Good evening, sir -- please notice that there's plenty of room in here for a complete set of luggage . . . and how about this wear-resistant carpeting . . . ?"

So congratulations, Gary Z -- you're now officially one of the funniest people around!

Other captions I was considering for top honors: "Leave the light on when you shut the door!" (from Catherine Scheader), "So, what will it take to get YOU into this car today?" (from Kelasher) and "Who needs OnStar? For an extra $50 a month, you'll get me in the trunk with a map giving you directions." (from Levi).

By the way, why all this animosity toward mothers-in law? I thought that pretty much ended when Henny Youngman passed away.

I've already picked out the drawing for the next contest, and I promise it'll be much easier than this one.

Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 9

Cartoon Caption Contest No. 9 starts right now.

Briefly, here are the details:

I'll supply a drawing of one of my old cartoons that has never been published, leaving off my caption. You are invited to supply your funniest captions. Simply (1) click on 'Comments' underneath the current drawing. Then (2) scroll down past all the other comments and type in your name and your caption in the spaces provided. Then (3) enter the anti-spam security word that assures me that you're a human being and not a machine, and (4) click 'Submit'. There is no limit on the number of captions you can submit for each drawing.

Entries will be accepted and posted for one week for each contest, after which a winner will be announced and the winning caption will be printed. Below that I will also print my original caption.

The cut-off time and date for you to submit your captions is midnight, Tuesday July 20th. I will be the sole judge. The winning caption will be the one I judge to be the funniest one submitted (not necessarily the one that matches or comes closest to my original caption).

Additional rules and regulations, for those of you who need such things, can be found here.

Here's the new drawing. Good luck!
