Winner of Eli’s Cartoon Caption Contest No. 233

“The internet says the Best Before date is fake news.”

(by Silvana Lagrotteria)

My original caption: “Do you like it? I got the recipe from that book you gave me, ‘Cooking For Dummies’.”

Congratulations, Silvana, on your third victory. That makes two in a row, since you won in Contest No. 232 also. Can there be any doubt that you are currently one of the funniest people around?

Here are the other captions that I was seriously considering:

“Sorry dear, these are the leftovers from the leftovers. Enjoy.” (by Diane Weisman)

“Remember when we could afford to eat here often?” (by Pat Foley)

“Ever notice how quiet it is when all the neighbors go out to eat?” (by Joe Ayella)

“I didn’t have paprika so I used chili powder.” (by Scott Malcolm)

“And the meatballs are made from kale.” (by Kelly Nagle)

“TV dinners taste so much better on fine china.” (by Jerry Davis)

“Today I’m trying a new ‘vegan’ recipe.” (by Jonathan Stein)

Captioneer Joe Ayella gets another Shout-Out: he won an honorable mention prize in Cartoon Stock’s latest caption contest. Good to see your name there, Joe!

Contest No. 234 will be posted in due time, and would you believe it will be in 2026. So Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all you Captioneers . . . and many thanks for participating!

  1. Hello Eli,

Silvana sends her thanks for your kind words.

This time, instead of taking her out for dinner, I will be making her dinner. I will likely run out of paprika when making the mashed potatoes.
