Dartnell, 1992

Explanation: In 1992, when this cartoon was published by Dartnell, it seemed to me that anything that was advertised had the tagline “The Official  ———  of the 1992 Olympics”. Nobody uses that tagline anymore. Maybe it was banned for legal reasons, or maybe advertisers realized that it didn’t have any effect on the overall sales of the item.

  1. That’s a terrific cartoon and caption! Even if the Olympics don’t use that tagline anymore, all the major sports leagues seem to do so, so I think it works wonderfully even today.

  2. Thanks, Joe. I’ve always liked the gag also, and I admit that I sold a few different versions of it during the many years of the Summer and Winter Olympics that I have lived through.

Good caption, Rory Steen, but unfortunately this is NOT the start of the next Caption Contest. Hope to see your entries in a couple of weeks, when Contest No. 216 officially begins.
