  1. I don’t think it would be an improvement, but would the cartoon still work if the survey taker’s mouth remained closed and pirate said, ‘Corporate raider’ or ‘I’m a Corporate raider?’

  2. First of all, thanks for your input — I appreciate hearing from you. But my feeling is that your changes would not work and would only confuse the humor of the cartoon. As I see it, the polltaker’s question is posed and then the resident’s reply is instantaneous — there is not even a split second between them. So both of them should be talking. The caption being on two separate lines reinforces that scenario. Also, I don’t see how adding “I’m a” to the reply contributes anything to the humor.

  3. Thank you . . . I didn’t mean to imply that there was something lacking in the original cartoon or that it needed any changes. I was just wondering if a one line caption from the person being polled could carry the cartoon. The way you captioned it is much more effective than a two frame cartoon for sure.

  4. Well, sure, the one-line caption with just the resident speaking could be something as simple as “My occupation? I’m a corporate raider.” But I still feel that the way I originally presented it is funnier.
