“I told you not to use so much starch when you cleaned it last Christmas.”
(by Ronn Roxx)
My original caption: “I remember telling them distinctly, no starch!”
Conratulations, Ronn Roxx, on this, your fifth victory (the last one was way back in Contest No. 155). Once again you have proved to be one of the funniest people around.
NOTE: I know that I say in my introductory remarks for each contest that “The winning caption will be the one I judge to be the funniest one submitted (not necessarily the one that matches or comes closest to my original caption)”. But, regardless of the fact that Ronn Roxx practically read my mind about the “starch” gag, I still honestly feel that his caption is the worthy winner. So I guess that means that I still like my original gag and am a loss to explain why the cartoon was never bought or published. By the way, all the captions that referenced a “coat hanger” were also pretty darn good, but a coat hanger wouldn’t explain the stiff cap, would it?
ANOTHER NOTE: I’d like to give a special shout-out to captioneer Rich Wolf. Recently he was the 3rd Place runner-up in Bob Mankoff’s Cartoon Caption Contest (the contest that ended on December 6th). Way to go, Rich Wolf — hope to see your name in the winner’s circle soon!
Here are the other captions that I was seriously considering for top prize:
“Idiot, you’ve left the coathanger inside.” (by ken wilkinson)
“Only the hat is perfect for you.” (by Michael Lomazow)
“No, I will not cover you with ornaments and tinsel!” (by David Grand)
“For Pete’s sake, Herbert . . . you’re supposed to take the hanger out!” (by Kay Ralph)
“You’re supposed to take the hanger out first you silly Santa.” (also by Ronn Roxx)
A new Contest will be posted soon. Please look for it and keep those funny captions coming in!
