Winner of Eli’s Cartoon Caption Contest No. 86
“He loves it. We’ll take it.”
(by Cary Antebi)
My original caption: “Is it a strong fabric? He does a lot of groveling.”
Yes, Cary Antebi’s last-minute entry has won it all (it was literally last-minute — submitted at 11:59 Tuesday night). So congrats once again, Cary — this is your record-breaking twenty-first win, solidifying your entitlement to be called one of the funniest people around.
I’ll admit that my original caption was rather pathetic. I realize now that instead of drawing up the cartoon and hoping to sell it, I should have just offered it as a gag to Bunny Hoest and John Reiner for “The Lockhorns”. The gag is so typical of what they do, I’m sure they would have snapped it up.
Here are the runner-up captions that I was considering:
“It’ll cost extra for a toupee.” (by Rebecca)
“Don’t be upset — self-reflection has never been his strong suit.” (by Bruce Morgenstern)
“I think it would look better on you. Would you mind trying it on?” (by Andrew Bramley)
“Could you dim the lights, the reflection off my husband’s head is giving me double vision.” (by ken wilkinson)
“You look just like your dad.” (by Kelasher)
“You’re a good salesman. We came to this store to buy him a handkerchief.” (by Howard Garrett)
“No! No! I was hoping for more of a Brad Pitt Look.” (by Jo Pette)
“Every time he buys a suit he does this routine with his twin brother.” (by Tim Collins)
A new contest will be up in a couple of weeks. Get ready for it!
