Winner of Eli’s Cartoon Caption Contest No. 54

                           “Who’s Smith? And who’s Wesson?”

                                           (by Dale Stout)

My original caption: “And what, pray tell, is a .38 Smith and Wesson?”

Okay, I guess I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for those lovable guys, Smith and Wesson. Anyway, how could I possibly resist Dale Stout’s clever caption, which just happens to be so very, very, very close to my original caption? Great minds think alike — and I guess I did a pretty reasonable job of drawing a .38 Smith & Wesson.

Congratulations, Dale, on your first victory — you are now officially one of the funniest people around!

By the way, I’m very curious to know if you are a guy or a gal, Dale. Most of the Dale’s I know are men, but then there’s always Dale Evans of Roy Rogers fame. So which is it? (Not that it matters!)

There were lots of great captions submitted for this drawing, and these are the ones that were “seriously” considered for first place honors:

“Since when do you take target practice lessons?” (by John Platt)

“Since when do you take business trips to Argentina?” (by Kelasher)

“Why are we getting a bill from ‘Ammo World’?” (by Caryn)

“I think your anger management therapy is just a waste of money.” (by Cary Antebi)

“Life insurance? Who needs more life insurance?” (also by Dale Stout)

Be on the lookout for Contest No. 55 — it’ll be up shortly. Thanks.

  1. Dear Eli,
    Dear Eli,
Thanks for the selection. I’m a guy, but I got a lot of Dale Evans kidding growing up. Although I can’t remember ever meeting a female Dale. It’s not too common of a name anymore.
    I like your original caption.
    Thanks again,
    Dale
