I've seen this gag “covered” countless times, in various disguises, by other cartoonists. I really don't know if this 1983 version of mine was the first to appear, but at least it was one of the earliest.

Desert Noon*
The burning sight of shimmering sand And light, white from a cruel sun. A dry dusty wind dries my nose While desert heat invades futile shade.
The light, white intense from a cruel Son And each breath is a battle won. The desert heat invades futile shade. The fight for life is heavily paid.
Each breath a battle won, My step slows in the softer sand. The fight for life is heavily paid, In this most forbidding deadly land.
While desert heat invades futile shade My step slows in the softest sand In this most forbidding deadly land. The dry dusty wind dries my nose.
