Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 48

Contest No. 48 starts right now.

Briefly, here are the details: I'll supply a drawing of one of my old cartoons that has never been published, leaving off my caption. You are invited to supply your funniest captions. Simply (1) click on "Add New Comment". Then (2) scroll down past any other submitted captions and type in your name and your caption in the spaces provided. Then (3) click "Save". Note: After you save your caption, please check at the top of the page to make sure it has been accepted and is awaiting my approval for posting. Some people are getting an "error" message on the top of the page, which states that the caption, or comment, has triggered a spam alert and will not go through. If you get such a message, please try again and/or email me at elilast@verizon.net  to let me know about the problem.  This glitch is being worked on, but it has not yet been resolved.

There is no limit on the number of captions you can submit for each drawing.

Entries will be accepted and posted for one week, after which a winner will be announced and the winning caption will be printed. Below that I will also print my original caption. The cut-off time and date for you to submit your captions for this contest is midnight Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

I will be the sole judge. The winning caption will be the one I judge to be the funniest one submitted (not necessarily the one that matches or comes closest to my original caption). Additional rules and regulations, for those of you who need such things, can be found here.

This is the drawing that needs your caption:

Stitches, 2001

Another cartoon from Stitches, a Canadian medical/human interest magazine that ceased publication in 2007. I don't have a copy of the cartoon as it appeared in print, so this is my file copy, with my hand-written caption.

Filtration News, May-June 2001

Another example of our forgetful editors. This cartoon was originally printed in the November-December 2000 issue of this same publication.

Stitches, 2003

Another cartoon that appeared in Stitches, a now-defunct Canadian medical-oriented publication. I don't have a copy of the printed cartoon, so this is a duplicate of the original, with a hand-written caption.

Winner of Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 47

                      " . . . . and this is our desktop model!"

                                         (by Dom Mancino)

My original caption: "And this, of course, is our desk-top model."

Okay, okay, caption-writers, I know that you're going to be annoyed that I picked an almost exact copy of my decades-old original caption for a winner. But, deep in your heart, you've got to admit that it's the perfect caption for the drawing, and that it's funnier than any of the other captions submitted. When I was selecting the cartoon drawing for this contest, I looked at this one and thought to myself, "Nah, everyone will get the gag immediately -- she's so obviously a desk-top model -- the first caption submitted will probably be something to that effect, and the contest will be a total flop." But I went with it anyway and, to my complete surprise, it wasn't until five days into the contest that someone finally came up with the desk-top model caption!

So congrats, Dom Mancino! This is your fourth win (the first one by yourself) and you really are one of the funniest people around!

Many of the other captions were excellent, and I was seriously considering these for top honors:

"And here's our top of the line, Senator . . . " (by C Stein)

"This is our deluxe executive desktop gift." (by Cary Antebi)

"So, Mr. Tech Wizard, let's see you build an app better than that." (by Gary)

"We got this marketing idea from the automotive industry." (by Cary Antebi)

Now let's see, will the drawing for the next contest have a similar sexist theme? Could be -- look for Contest No. 48 in just a few short weeks.
